2008 IDPC – Excellence in Action

Kansas City, Mo. welcomed IAAP's Incoming Division Presidents on March 28 and 29.  Attendees of IDPC enjoyed an informal networking reception Thursday night which kicked off a great conference.

Due to a new format this year, in addition to IAAP Headquarters staff, four International Board members were heavily involved in the meeting. Acting President Elect Barb Horton CAP, Vice President Sandy Chandler CPS, Secretary Susan Shamali CPS/CAP, and Treasurer Mary Ramsay-Drow CPS/CAP joined the incoming division presidents.

The division leaders received training in conflict resolution, leadership, team building, lectern etiquette, and legal/financial issues just to name a few of the topics. Attendees earned “IAAP bucks" throughout the training so they had purchasing power for the Saturday night auction. John Maxwell’s Becoming a Person of Influence received the highest bid of $80,000.

The 2008-2009 Pathways to Excellence Recognition Program was unveiled and will be presented at upcoming division meetings.  Additional information about this program will also be provided in future issues of Connections.

A special thank you is extended to Boston Market and Avery Dennison. Boston Market provided Friday night’s dinner free of charge, and Avery Dennison provided binders, inserts, and gift bags in addition to sponsoring Saturday’s dinner. Here's what some of those attending had to say about this year's IDPC.

Teresa A. Henderson, CAP

Virginia Division

"The IDPC was one of the best experiences I've had since joining IAAP.  The camaraderie that was built, the friendships that were made, and the insight that was gained in this short time period will last a lifetime! I have an increased confidence to face my year as VA Division President.  Thank you for this opportunity!"

Mary R. Marrone-Polo

New Jersey Division

"Congratulations and thank you for an awesome IDPC.  I heard from others, 'This was the best ever!'  So that reassured me of witnessing "Excellence In Action."  It's great to be 'on the right bus,' with the right leaders, training and leadership materials, to put IAAP on the right road to success. Great networking, informative, and fun!"

Demetrice M. Clayton CPS/CAP
Georgia Division

"I was told IDPC would be good. What an understatement; it was GREAT! From the engaging teambuilding exercises and enlightening facts about various segments of the Association to the enriching leadership presentations and encouraging words regarding the importance of unity, IDPC was proven to be THE motivating factor to jump start Excellence in Action for all of the 2008-2009 Division Presidents."
