Committee on Nominations and Board Subcommittee Clarify Candidate Conduct
Due to several members voicing concern over the past few years about the nominations process, a subcommittee from the International Board and the Committee on Nominations collaborated on an effort to develop IAAP Rules for Candidates Seeking International Office.
A document with the same name was created in order to better define what a candidate may and may not do. IAAP Rules for Candidates Seeking International Office provides clear delineation about the opportunities a candidate has to provide information to the membership about their qualifications, their platform and reason for seeking International Office and also outlines restrictions for candidates. “We heard specific complaints about the actions of some of our candidates from previous years,” says Laurie Cozens, CPS/CAP, 2007-2008 Committee on Nominations Chairman. “We strongly felt it was time to make things more clear both for candidates and members of IAAP and to create a more level and fair playing field,” Cozens said.
Several proposed Bylaws and Standing Rules amendments are being proposed to provide a sound governance foundation in order for the sanctions within the “IAAP Rules for Candidates Seeking International Office” to be enforced. Violations of the rules may result in disqualification from one election to a lifetime ban from seeking International office.
The intent to initiate action on this matter was announced at the 2007 International Convention and Education forum in Tampa. The IAAP Rules for Candidates Seeking International Office can be found here and the accompanying bylaws may be found here.
