Submit Info About Chapter Administrative Professionals Week Events |
|
Again this year, an APW event information submittal form is available in the "Members' Place" section of the IAAP website for chapters to enter information about their events. The event information will then be published in a searchable database on the APW/APD page on the international website so site visitors will be able to find chapter-sponsored programs in their area. Look for the link to the submittal form under "Latest News at a Glance" in "Members' Place." You'll find observance suggestions and the latest news and information in the Administrative Professionals Week/Day page of the IAAP website. |

2008 International Convention & Education Forum Update
Event Dates: July 27-30, 2008
Location: Hilton Riverside, New Orleans LA
For the first time divisions, chapters, companies or a
group of convention friends can reserve a table in the main banquet hall
before arriving on site in New Orleans. The International Board has agreed
to offer this opportunity as a fundraiser for a local charity in New Orleans
– Make it Right NOLA organization,
www.makeitrightnola.org.
So get your friends together to reserve your banquet table today so you won’t have to wait in line for your table assignment when you arrive in New Orleans. AND you’ll be donating to a very worthy cause.
Here are the details:
50 Pre-reserved tables will be available & randomly scattered throughout the main banquet hall.
Each table seats 10 persons
Cost to pre-reserve is $150 per table ($15 per person)
Tables will be assigned on a random, first come/first serve basis by the Convention Manager
No partial table reservations will be allowed (so if you have 5 friends, network on the IAAP Members' Place Forums to fill the table of 10)
Only one point of contact/person per table will be allowed; this person is responsible for informing his or her tablemates of the table assignment
Deadline is May 1, 2008 for reservation and payment of the reserved table
Pre-reserved tables are limited and may sell out prior to the deadline; no additional tables will be added
Payment may be made by check or major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover only)

Banquet dinner ticket included in full registration fee, guest banquet ticket cost $60

New Leadership Luncheon
If you are going to IAAP’s International Convention and Education Forum in New Orleans be sure to sign up for the Leadership Luncheon co-sponsored by Avery Dennison.
The Leadership Luncheon replaces the Certification Luncheon that has been offered in the past. You do not have to be a CPS or CAP holder to attend; you just need to be interested in honing your leadership skills.
The new Leadership Luncheon will be open to the first 800 attendees who register and pay. The luncheon cost is $25 and there will be open seating. Since this will be the first time an open seating format is tried, diplomacy in finding a seat is strongly encouraged. The success of this change will determine if open seating is offered at future events.
Check out the luncheon program below and make plans to attend:

The
IAAP International Board of Directors and subcommittees are hard at work
putting the finishing touches on the new Pathways to Excellence
program. IAAP leaders have been asking for a recognition program that
rewards excellence at all levels and not just numbers, and this new
program delivers!
The details will be unveiled to the Incoming Division Presidents at their conference this Spring and will be put into practice during the 2008-2009 fiscal year. We think you'll be pleased with the results!
IAAP podium banners are now available through IAAP’s emblematic supplier, PromoCorp. If you haven’t been to PromoCorp’s website recently it’s time you checked it out! You will find business card holders, gavels and gold seals, just to name a few of the recent additions.
At this time, CPS and CAP items are not available. The Certification Department is working with PromoCorp to make professional certification items available in the near future. Contact Kathy Schoneboom CPS/CAP at kschone@iaap-hq.org if you have questions or suggestions concerning certification items and contact Joy Johnston at jjohnston@iaap-hq.org for all other questions.

IAAP Best Practices
-Jacky Ammerman CAP, Blue Grass Chapter President, KY Division
One of the highest compliments that I receive is when I am thanked for sharing helpful information. Many times I am asked where I find the useful information that I share. I am a knowledge junkie!
I find useful information almost anywhere at any time. The key to using this information is in knowing who the information is useful to. The following article highlights the five tools that I use for collecting and disseminating information. I hope that you find it helpful and informative.
TOOL #1 – Coordinate the information.
On my desk I have a binder titled “Inspiration and Information.” For many years, as I read magazines and found articles of interest, I have torn out or copied the information and placed it in the binder. If/when I share the information I note the date and group that I shared the information with. In the changing environment of administration, it is very interesting to review these articles every few months for their relativity.
With today’s technology, this binder is on its way off my desk and into the electronic footprint of my computer. I now have easy access to be able to scan and save articles electronically, thereby eliminating the need for hard copies.

IAAP Gives Back
Each
December, the Union Colony Chapter of the International Association of
Administrative Professionals, focuses on a project in helping the community.
This year, during the months of October, November and December, the
chapter accepted member donations for the Community Outreach Center (COC) in
Greeley, CO.
The Community Outreach Center started in 1982 by a group of women that saw a need in our community. The goal is to give temporary help and hope to those going through a “tough time.”
