Awards for
Excellence Winners
The IAAP Awards for Excellence
were created in 1992 to recognize employer organizations that
have established policies and programs to encourage and support
the advancement and effectiveness of administrative
professionals.
An independent panel of judges confidentially evaluates each
nomination packet and selects the winners. The 2008 awards were
handed out during International Convention and Education Forum
in New Orleans. IAAP chooses one winner from companies under
1,000 and one from companies over 1,000.

Your attention,
please!
A motion that all chapters of IAAP be given online membership
registration capability with implementation no later than
January 1, 2009 was passed at IAAP’s International Convention
and Education Forum in New Orleans. IAAP Headquarters staff is
working with an IT consultant to make this option a reality.
To meet the January 1, 2009 launch date, immediate changes and
updates to the IAAP database are required. Some of these changes
include renumbering chapter IDs in multi-state divisions. The
presidents of the affected chapters and the corresponding
division presidents will be contacted via e-mail as the chapter
numbers are changed.
How division at large information is processed in the database
will also change. Although this is an internal process, this
update combined with the chapter renumbering will cause a
suspension of the online Statistics Reports and the Scoreboards
until the online chapter join option is launched. The online
Active Member Rosters will continue to be available in the
interim and hard copies of the billing and rebate reports will
be mailed with the monthly rebate checks to chapter and division
treasurers.
A search feature will be included in the online chapter join
process so that individuals can search for chapters by any of
the following criteria:
Chapter Number
Chapter Name
City
State
Chapter of Excellence (available Fall 2009)
Virtual Chapter
Zip Code/Postal Code
Chapter presidents were contacted on August 8 concerning this
project and additional information was requested via a form. The
form submission deadline is August 15, 2009.

Wohlgemuth, Membership Project Specialist, via e-mail at

Spotlight
Meet Susan Fenner
Susan
Fenner Ph.D, came to work at IAAP in November of 1984.
Previously she taught for several years at Benedictine
College in Atchison, Kan. and had a few years under her
belt as a trainer for Heartland Healthcare in St.
Joseph, Mo., where she did in-house training for a major
hospital system.
At IAAP, Susan is manager of the Education and
Professional Development department. Her department is
responsible for securing speakers, creating programs,
selecting and selling products, research, and tracking
trends.
Susan authors two columns– “Work Smart” in Office
Solution magazine and “Turning Jobs Into Careers”
for OfficePro. She also serves as the admin
support advisor on Monster.com.
"I’m also the general editor for The Complete Office
Handbook and co-author of Making Your Message
Memorable, a book on using storytelling to
effectively communicate with others that was written
with two good friends," she said.
Besides having adventures with a wide variety of
friends, outside of work, Susan spends quality time with
her black Standard Poodle. "My all-time buddy is Simone.
She’s been with me through thick and thin for 14 years,"
said Susan.
In the coming months, Susan will be busy with the FBI
Citizens Academy, an 8-week program where she'll learn
more about crime prevention and detection and even get
some time in on the shooting range. "I hope to have some
good stories to share," she said.
In her spare time, Susan served on a board that provided
microloans to women in Ghana. She's also currently on a
board that has 28 businesses in healthcare, including
two hospitals. "So I know what’s it’s like to be on ‘the
other side’ of associations and depend on staff," she
said.
