Here at Headquarters we're
deep into preparations for International Convention and
Education Forum coming next month. For all of you that
are coming, we can't wait to see you. For those of you
that can't make it, check in your August/September
edition of OfficePro for photos and news from
Convention.
Check in next month's
IAAP Connections for information about vendor
product showcase presentations (referred to as
sponsor sessions in the Convention mailer) that will be at
Convention. You'll also find an article on how to make
small talk, a perfect primer before Convention or for
anytime you find yourself alone in a crowd.
For now, here's your
June issue.

2008 Certification
Performance Reports
In the mail by June 19!
Performance Reports for
the May 2008 CPS and CAP exams are scheduled to mail
approximately 45 days after the exam; that is an
estimated mailing date of June 19. If there are any
delays, a notice will be posted on the front page of the
main IAAP website giving a new mailing date.
Remember, this is only a mailing date. We have no
control over postal service delivery. If your
Performance Report is not received within 10 business
days after mailing (allow at least 15 days for
international mail), notify the Certification Department
and we will be happy to mail a duplicate. Performance
Reports cannot be accessed via the web, nor can they be
sent via e-mail or fax. Best wishes to all who will be
receiving their reports in June.
It is not too early to register for the November CPS and
CAP exams. Dates are November 7 for Part 4 of the CAP
exam and November 8 for Parts 1-3 of the CPS and CAP
exams. Approved sabbatarian sites and select
international sites will administer the exams November 6
and 7. Deadline for applying is August 15;
international candidates, please apply by August 1. New
candidates should apply using the forms in the
Certification Application Packet, which can be found on
the IAAP website
here. Eligible retake candidates will receive
personalized registration forms in late July.

Certification Department at

2008 Certification
Conference
Don't miss this!
Mark your calendars now for the 2008 Certification Conference,
and watch the main IAAP website later this month for further
details.

2008 Certification Conference will be held October 19-22, in
Denver CO. Hotel reservations can be made now at the Denver
Grand Hyatt; phone 800-233-1234. Identify yourself as an
attendee of the IAAP Certification Conference to receive room
rates of $179 single/double or $189 triple/quad (plus taxes). For a look at the hotel,
Complete Conference details are available on the main IAAP
website
here. Registration opened June 1 for those who have an
active CPS or CAP rating; early bird fees will be $495 for
active CPS and CAP holders who are members of IAAP, and $575 for
nonmembers. Starting August 1, space permitting, registration
will open for those who are not certified; fees will be $575 for
IAAP members and $680 for nonmembers.
The 2008 Certification Conference will provide top-notch
educational sessions, valuable networking opportunities, and a
time to relax and have some fun. Make plans now to attend and
learn as we look at the environment in the workplace.
Active CPS and CAP holders who attend the entire Conference will
receive 15 recertification points.
Don't miss the chance to take advantage of this excellent
educational opportunity and great chance to network with other
administrative professionals who face the same challenges. The
annual Certification Conference is also great way for active CPS
and CAP holders to earn some of those much needed
recertification points.
Measure Your Interpersonal Skills
For Free
Interpersonal skills were listed as a top factor in
hiring, according to admin and executive respondents
in a recent study conducted by OfficeTeam and IAAP –
even over technical skills.
Here’s a chance to see how your interpersonal skills
measure up to other office professionals and at the
same time provide some important data to the
developers of Encounter™, an online assessment using
video-based vignettes. At the completion of the
assessment, you’ll get immediate feedback by e-mail
indicating how your choices compare to the standards
set by the panel. To take the exam and measure your
interpersonal skills, go to
www.biddlehr.com/iaap/. Along with your scores
will be a link you can share with your exec and HR
director so they can review this new online
interactive assessment (and measure their skills
too).
A Look Back
IAAP History

Only a few years after
International Convention
and Education Forum
began, admins were looking forward to their summer
get-a-way. This is from the June 1951 issue of The
Secretary. Here's what they said back then:
Off to Texas -- Destination,
NSA annual convention, held this year at the Shamrock
Hotel. It would be nice if all 10,000 of our members
could attend; but, for those who cannot arrange to "get
away" The Secretary
plans to take you there
in spirit. We'll have lots of pictures and more pages to
tell you just how
things are going.
Your association magazine,
now OfficePro, still brings you all the news and
photos from International Convention and Education
Forum. Don't miss your August/September issue.

Year end processing information
As we approach the end of the IAAP fiscal year on June 30,
please review the following information regarding the 2007-2008
Recognition Plus Awards Program and the handling of year-end
information at IAAP Headquarters.
In order for all new members, transferred members, and
reinstated members to be counted and included in the 2007-2008
“Forward Moving” year, all new member applications, transfer
forms, reinstatement forms and payments must be received at IAAP
Headquarters no later than 2 p.m. Central Time on Monday, June
30, 2008.
New member applications, transfers, and member reinstatements
with credit card charges can be faxed directly to the Membership
Department at 816-801-1356 or to the front desk at HQ at

Keep in mind that fax machines at HQ could be busy in late June
and in order to meet the timed deadline, members, chapters, and

membership information until the last minute.
All new IAAP and Student Chapters must be chartered by June 30,
2008 in order for the chapters to count in the 2007-2008 year.
See you at the finish line!
