You're on TV
About 40 IAAP members from
Clear Lake/NASA Area Chapter, Galveston County Chapter,
Houston Chapter, Southwest Houston Chapter, West Houston
and Woodlands Area chapters were part of the
studio audience of the Great Day Houston TV show, live
on July 17. During one of the commercial breaks, Debra
Duncan, the show's host, asked the audience if anyone
had a shoe story. One of Great Day Houston's weekly
segments is "Thursday is Shoe Day." During this segment
Duncan interviewed one of the Clear Lake/NASA
area chapter members about her boss and her obsession
with shoes.
Duncan mentioned on air that she
was a member of the International Association of
Administrative Professionals and that other members
were in the audience that day. She had invited the
Houston area members to be her guests when she was their
speaker at the Houston Inter-City Council Administrative
Professional Week event held in April in downtown
Houston.

Members Giving Back

Last fall the Downtown Milwaukee Chapter (DMC)
Board identified the "Dress for Success" Suit
Drive as a perfect community service project.
DMC contacted their local OfficeTeam to partner
with them in helping collect business
appropriate clothes and suits. The Dress for
Success benefits men and women transitioning
from unemployment to self sufficiency. Through
this joint effort, over 1,000 items were
collected.
"I felt like Santa
Claus," said DMC Chapter Coordinator, Carol
Rehak. "Dress for Success naturally compliments
IAAP's mission to promote education and
professionalism in the workplace. The effort
was a lot of fun and it gave me a chance to get
to know our associate members from OfficeTeam.
Merry Dress-mas!"

Promoting IAAP in the Air
In March Audra J. Stempel
took a plane from Albany, N.Y. to Kansas City, Mo. for
the Incoming Division Presidents' conference. A nurse
sat next to her on the leg of the journey that departed
from Detroit. When she asked Stempel what waited for her
in Kansas City, she mentioned IAAP and the conference.
"She asked me for more
information as she was looking for a local organization
for her assistant to attend a meeting, become part of
and become certified," said Stempel. "She stated she
completed her assistant’s yearly evaluation and
suggested that she join an organization that she can
relate to."
That's when Stempel
extolled the virtues of IAAP, spoke about the Syracuse
Chapter and gave contact information to have her admin
review the division website to click on the Syracuse
chapter for more information.
The administrative assistant at St. Joseph's Hospital
contacted the Syracuse Chapter through the Syracuse
website on April 25. Because of one conversation
on a plane, IAAP has a potential new member and someone
very interested in certification and enthusiastic about
membership. She also is going to share the information
packet with her co-workers”.
