Welcome to the Passion and Purpose year
Someone said to me last week, "Change is good, you go first." That is the name of a book, but also a truth in today's workplace. For me, change hit me this week because I'm learning a new program to create this newsletter. Hopefully after a few months of playing with it, I'll find more intuitive and easier to work with. Until then, bear with me since this looks a bit different and not completely how I'd like it to look.
Learning new programs isn't the only challenge we have in the workplace. With competition in the office increasing, finding and keeping a job takes high levels of skills, emotional intelligence and something more. This year's Fall Conference (previously titled the Certification Conference) will help you attain that extra edge in the workplace by teaching you the Core Charactristics of a Champion.

The Core Characteristics of a Champion - Don't miss the early bird rates
Looking for Certification Conference information? If you've been having trouble finding it, it's because this year it has a new name: Fall Conference. It's going to be great. You're going to want to head to Louisville, Ken., for two and a half days of training.
In today's business world, it takes more than technical proficiency, razor sharp abilities and soft skills to rise to the top. To become a work champion, it takes understanding and practicing the Core Characteristics of a Champion.
Join speakers Cal LeMon, Steven Iwersen and Jeff Lanza as they speak about teamwork, respect, flexiblity/change, integrity/honesty and compassion and caring and why these matter in today's workplace. That's not all. This is worth 15 recertification points.
The conference begins on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17, and runs through Wednesday morning. Register today and you won't miss the early bird deadline on Sept. 6.

IAAP Bylaws Changes
There were eight IAAP proposed bylaws amendments presented at the 2010 EFAM in Boston. The bylaws amendments were all approved by the delegates. Here is a breakdown of the amendments:
- Bylaws amendment 1 deleted full-time employment as a qualification for international office, must only be employed.
- Bylaws amendments 2, 3 and 4 changed the service requirements for candidates for the board of directors.
- Bylaws amendment 5 pertained to International Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee and deleted the committee’s recommendations and reasons for recommendations on proposed bylaws amendments. Instead the proposer’s reasoning will be included.
- Bylaws amendments 6 and 7 are relevant to the annual meeting. Bylaws amendment 6 deleted the paragraph regarding scheduling the annual meeting six years in advance. Bylaws amendment 7 added the stipulation that delegates and alternates must be members of the unit they are representing.
