8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 21

Business today is based on trust and respect. Whether you’re talking about stockholders and stakeholders, outside partners and alliances, or coworkers and management, you can’t reach your goals unless everyone gets along and goes along. With less resources and more demands, we have to join forces and work as part of a team. However, trust doesn’t come with a title or a signed agreement. It’s forged by keeping your word, turning out quality work, and being supportive of your allies.

Learn the basic tenets of trust and respect, how to get them, how to keep them.
Find out what’s so different about today than 10 years ago and why relationships will continue to rise in importance – although in very different ways.
Gain valuable insights into building trust with someone you doubt or have had previous bad experiences with.
Look at behaviors that can create positive interactions and ones that can destroy them.
Examine reputation management and learn how to recover from mishaps

Later, he bought a small interest in a commuter airline that ran between three cities in Texas. He became its legal counsel and director and took Colleen with him. When he retired in 2001 as President and CEO, he turned to two old friends: James Parker, the company's longtime general counsel to succeed him as CEO, and Colleen Barrett to become president, having moved up through the ranks and served on the management team for several years.

This admin turned executive, will explain that Southwest is in the customer service business but it happens to provide transportation. She will give a quick overview of how SWA became a marketing company; how SWA’s culture came about; what five leadership expectations the company sets for its people and who SWA’s customers are in terms of importance. She will also share her thoughts about why she believes that servant leadership, LUV and freedom are the key ingredients to Southwest’s success.

The workplace is changing – drastically – due to economic times. This means fewer people doing more things, and as workers come and go or are reassigned, someone to orient, train, support, advise, and help them get onboard. Coaching and mentoring may be a new role for admins, but it is an old one for individuals who want to move up the organization. Companies know that their future depends on recruiting, retaining, and growing talent. That’s where you come in. Learn how to: motivate others; match talents to tasks; provide timely and constructive feedback; actively listen; assist others in solving their own problems; establish and use business networks; and prepare a replacement for when you get promoted (and you will, using these new-found skills).

Participating in a highly interactive simulation game where your airplane crash-lands in the Sonoran Desert and you and the other survivors have 15 items salvaged from the plane that will play a vital role in your group’s survival – or not. Find out if you are a leader or a follower. A consensus-builder or a devil’s advocate. An innovator or dead weight.

Set in an unfamiliar location, The Desert Survival Situation simulation will take you outside of your comfort zone and areas of expertise and into a unique situation where only your synergistic problem-solving skills will help you survive.  By measuring the quality of both you and your team’s performance on a number of tasks, you’ll be able to gauge your: ability to problem solve; make good decisions; function as part of a team; trust others; promote group synergy; provide effective feedback; recover from poor choices; handle frustrating people; and gain insights into your behavioral and leadership style. This is one experience you don’t want to miss! It could change how you see yourself and your career future!

#601 2012 Leadership Workshop: Be The Change
Lisa Prosser-Dodds
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26

Leaders have moved into a new realm of personal accountability and responsibility. It’s no longer enough to chair meetings and work on projects. Today’s leaders must accept the challenge of stepping up to “be the change” and inspiring everyone in the group. For associations, that means having an active role in recruiting, maintaining, and retaining members. In the workplace, that means finding the best, working to keep the group moving in a common direction, and helping others achieve their goals to create a high-performance work team. Lisa Prosser-Dodds will teach you the skills you need to be the one, who makes the difference and brings about change.

You will leave the 2012 Leadership Workshop with techniques for being the model leader, a network of people to support you in this pursuit, and enthusiasm for what you can accomplish this coming year.
