Hi everyone!

My name is Jade and I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education over 4 years ago. I realized that Education isn't exactly what I pictured it to be, however I was almost done with my degree and decided to follow through and receive my Bachelor's. I then acquired a job working as an administrative assistant for an Engineering firm and decided to turn this into my career.

The teacher in me is always looking for ways to better myself and my career so after my first yearly review at the Engineering firm, I decided I would look into the resources available for administrators. I came across the CAP exam through Google and was let down when I realized I didn't have enough experience with my degree to apply. I patiently waited the two years, missed a couple deadlines, and have now registered for the September 2016 exam.

Fortunately, I work for a supportive boss who has been behind me to get this certification from the start. If you never ask the answer will always be no. I also work for an amazing company and learned that not only will they reimburse for all exam fees and other resources, but I also receive a hefty bonus for obtaining this certification. Talk about some added motivation! Although I receive a bonus to obtain CAP, I believe that this will help further my career and general life knowledge. Even if these circumstances weren't the case I would still be registered for this course because I always want to be the best version of myself.

I am so happy that I came across Marie Herman's study group to help me prepare for this exam. It has been four years since I have done any kind of school or tests like I mentioned before. It is comforting to know that I have an experienced leader to help me through test preparation. Plus there are over 70 other members in the study group with different experiences and information they can share as well.

I am excited, nervous, and proud all at the same time. Good luck to everyone who is taking the exam in September and if you are thinking about taking it I would highly recommend it to further your knowledge and career.

Good luck!

Jade

I'm excited to hear you found the administrative field in your professional calling. I came across IAAP several years back because I wanted to find ways to stay up to date with my skills as a career-minded administrative assistant. Don't be afraid of the CAP exam. You will challenge yourself and learn so much more. Best of luck.

Many of us kind of "fall into" the administrative profession and then after doing it for a few years, look around and say... "well, I guess if I'm going to make this a career, I'd better start taking it seriously." I think that is when people actively start looking for professional associations like IAAP and certification programs.

I've worked for engineering firms. They are often more supportive because of the licensing required for their own professions. I think it makes them take the idea of training more seriously than some other professions. That is awesome that your company is so supportive.

I can't wait to see those initials after your name!!!

Marie
