CAP Timeline

I have spent the better part of the last couple of days looking at a LOT of information regarding the CAP exam. I see dates for applying, exam dates, studying recommendations, and am finding I am just a little bit overwhelmed. I see one of the highly-rated study groups lasts 15 weeks. It's already January, and I see the testing is March to April. So my questions are:

- What is the recommended amount of time needed for preparing for the test?

- I think I already missed the opportunity to be certified in 2017, correct, as only one test is offered per year?

- If I start reading and reviewing items now, does the material change each year? I'd hate to spend a large chunk of time preparing, when the material will change.

- Is the test each year offered around the same time? Trying to get a timeframe in mind for next year of when I should start the process.

My understanding is that the test is offered twice a year, in March and September, I believe. I started studying for the March exam in November, and I'm seeing that it is a LOT of material. I think if you have chunks of time during your work day to study, it's doable. The scheduling just opened up on January 2 for the March exam, but you do have to apply to IAAP first to ensure you are eligible to sit for the exam. That process didn't take much time for me. However, if you're feeling rushed about making the March exam, you certainly still have time for the September exam. Good luck!

Hello and you can do it! You will have to read a lot for March (8 hours a week) or defer until the next one. I highly recommend a study group - my in-person group of the 4 of us met once a week for 6 months and all passed (and had a ball). Marie Hermann http://www.mrhenterprises.com/ has great tips and study groups, to name one source. I don't think the basic material changes too much. You are smart to take it seriously and prepare in advance. People procrastinate the studying and get overwhelmed. Also, a positive attitude is most of the battle!

The CAP exam is offered twice (Spring & Fall). You can plan on sitting for the exam in November. This will give you plenty time to study and be prepared. Everyone learns differently. Find the style works best for you.

Hi Megan!

I would recommend taking a good 4-6 months to prepare for the test.

I have a study group starting in May for the September 2017 exam. I sent you an email about it.

It can be a bit overwhelming to do by yourself. It takes a lot of time and self discipline. I do think using a study group (not just mine, any study group) is helpful in staying focused.
