Hello, everyone! My name is Jacqueline and I have made the decision to sit for the Spring 2018 CAP Exam. I made this decision because I felt it would put the final feather in my “cap” (pun intended) as an Administrative Professional. I have an Associate’s degree specializing in my field of choice, but felt that becoming certified would put me above the “average” admin and encourage me to remain current in my field through the re-certification process.

I also hope to gain respect by becoming certified. When I started my career as an Administrative Professional, many people did not take me seriously. “You’re going to be a secretary?” “Why would you want to be at the bottom of the iceberg?” “You should climb the corporate ladder and sit on the other side of the desk!” These are comments that came, not only from fellow coworkers, but my own family!

Yet, I could not ignore how much I enjoyed playing secretary or “office” as a kid. It’s something I have always wanted to do and always thought I would love. I was right. I love my job and I feel strong doing my job. I now want to be the best Administrative Professional that I can be, not only for the company I work for and the wonderful CEO I work for, but for also for myself.

In preparation for the CAP Exam, I have joined Marie Herman’s online study group. I have taken a multitude of online classes through my college career and feel quite comfortable with the setting so far. I am also registered to attend the CAPstone Conference in Atlanta, GA in March.

Good luck everyone!

I've spoken at career expos and had a booth discussing the administrative career path. It's sad how many students are interested but their parents steer them away... This is a worthy career path and it's needed. Not everyone wants to be in the limelight!

Let's yet you certified and get that hat of yours decorated! :)
