Ruth - Good luck in getting the information to build your case for additional compensation on attaining the certification designation. I believe the compensation is well deserved. When I received my designation, was working for a state agency, and the designation was not really recognized. I did receive some tuition reimbursement for a review class I took. You may want to check with IAAP HQ Certification Department to see what information they have available that you could use.

Linda L. Rolfe, CAP (Ret.), OM

I did not receive a monetary compensation when I certified but I do have an interesting story. The year was 1983 and I had finally passed all six parts of the exam and had my certificate hanging on the wall where I worked. It didn't mean much to the people I worked with other than it said I had accomplished something. At that time I was working for a Government contractor and they had sent some auditors in. The head man of that group saw my certificate, knew what it was, and congratulated me on my achievement. He said a couple of their secretaries had also achieved certification. The upside is that the people I worked with looked at certification in a whole different manner.

I did receive compensation when I earned by Bachelor of Science degree three years later (and in a different group) but it was standard practice for my area at that time to award compensation for college degrees to all the employees in the department, didn't matter what your job title was.

I've emailed the form, Ruth. I hope they do start recognizing the benefit of having this certification.

I work at the University of Tennessee and they encourage admin staff to take the CAP, even offering a 9% pay increase for earning the certification. They also offer $150 toward the cost, study guides available to borrow, and have a website dedicated to the exam at https://hr.tennessee.edu/training/training-services/cap/

I work for the Board of Sumter County Commissioners and my admin group was able to provide justification to the HR Department and request the CAP Certification be added to the County's compensation schedule and it worked. I've emailed the form back to you. Hopefully, they will recognize the level of knowledge required for the CAP exam and provide the well deserved compensation.
