My CAP journey began when I asked my boss if I could change my title from Administrative Assistant to Administrative Professional. After having a meeting with our HR Manager, I found out that in order for me to hold the title of Administrative Professional, I had to be certified. She told me her research revealed the IAAP organization had a course I could take to get my certification as an Administrative Professional and it was recognized in Canada. I had no idea this program existed! This was exciting news to me so I registered for the course. I will admit, I have butterflies because it's been a long time since I have taken a course but I am up for the challenge. To help me with this journey in my professional development, I have registered for Marie's Study Group after being advised it was "HIGHLY' recommended. I wish you all the best of luck on this journey with me!

Fran, although it's great that you're pursuing CAP certification, I would have pushed back on the HR manager on her response to your title change request. If your resume proves your years of skills, knowledge and experience in the administrative field, you are a "professional" and deserved to be called such if that's what you want. We go by many titles in the administrative field and the one you asked for is just another. I wonder if she would have responded the same for an employee in another field??

Congratulations on taking this next step in your personal and professional development, Fran. Welcome to IAAP as well! I really enjoy hearing the various stories about why each person is taking the exam. I'm looking forward to celebrating with you when you add those the letters, CAP behind your name along with your new job title! Best wishes with your studies!
