I first learned about the CAP certification about four years ago when I wanted to do something to reenergize my administrative career. Managing a husband, full time job, a 7 seven year old, and a 4 year old, I wanted something that was effective but not super immersive such as working on my MBA. I felt becoming a CAP would easily fit into my busy lifestyle and afford me a promotion at work. I approached my employer at the time and because they did not want to pay for the certification, I put it on the back burner. Today, I have a new employer who without hesitation agreed to pay for my iaap membership, the certification exam, and the Marie Herman study group. As a CAP I expect to have opportunites open for me at my current employer and it will afford me a refresher to my Management degree. I also hope to network with others and get ideas on how to expand my credentials. As I approach the third week of the study process, I feel good about where I am. The classes are interesting and the reading is informative. I am behind on the reading but I am not drowning which is where I thought I may be since I vacationed last week. Overall, I am proud of myself for taking the step to move forward in my career and I look forward to passing the exam with flying colors.
