Hello, I am excited to be pursuing my CAP Certification. I plan to test in the fall. I am a student and learner at heart, so this is right up my alley. I have not received any certifications or degrees since getting my MLIS in 2006. My career path has been very circuitous, definitely not linear. I worked in libraries in Florida for eleven years before moving to rural Tennessee outside of Nashville to pursue music with my musician husband. COVID stopped all that. I now work as a state employee for my local health department. When I found out the state encourages admins to get their CAP Certification, I figured, why not. I get a raise. With diligence and discipline, I know I can do this. The journey has become a little deeper, however. When I’ve found myself in between career adventures, I have always used admin work to fall back on. I have always had decent admin jobs. As I am now in my later working years, I feel like getting the CAP Certification will acknowledge to me that admin work has been more than my back up; it has been a big part of my career. My mother, when she had to go back to work, finished raising us on admin work. I guess she influenced me more than I know. I’m proud of that. That’s my story.

Best of luck on this journey. I am excited that we will be pursuing it together as part of Marie's study group! I am a fellow Tennessean, about an hour south of Nashville. We can do this!
