My study group leader, Marie, asked her students to post our reason for sitting for the CAP exam. My husband and I just had our first child 6 months ago. During maternity leave we decided it would be cost effective for him to stay home with her, rather than work to pay for child care. This left me as the sole financial provider for our family. While I make enough to provide for us financially right now, I was more motivated to increase my salary. My director suggested this exam as a way to promote me by the fall of this year. The reason I am sitting for the CAP exam is to help me grow into a better position to provide the best life for my daughter.

I am feeling ambitious but also overwhelmed. The amount of studying that is needed while also working full time and having an infant at home is a lot to take on, but I have never been one to shy away from a challenge. As long as I manage my time wisely, I know I can prioritize this exam. I plan to prepare by taking Marie's study group, making time weekly to read/study, and my husband is my accountability partner making sure I do in fact study. Aside from preparing educationally, I am also staying strong in my faith. When I take on a challenge, it can be easy for me to fear failure but if I stay connected to my higher power I ensure my mental state is also prepared. Wish me luck!
