I've considered taking the exam for a couple of years and finally decided why not now. I've been in various administrative roles for over 15 years and feel this is the next step in furthering my current position as an administrative professional. I hope that by taking the exam I will continue to be seen as a subject matter expert in my field and that others will see that it's an obtainable goal! I've purchased the smart book bundle and am participating in Marie Herman's study group and feel that both will help me strengthen my knowledge base.

Good for you Melanie! You will not regret it and it extremely satisfying is no better feeling than to obtain professional certification!

I've chosen to take the CAP Exam, actually, I made the decision a few years ago but kept chickening out. I haven't taken a class, let alone an exam, in over 20 years, so the very thought of it is extremely intimidating to me. But now that my children are all grown and I have the time to actually invest in myself, I don't have any legitimate excuse to NOT do it anymore! LOL. Aside from that, however, the real reason I am finally taking the exam is because I need to prove to myself that I can do this, and because I think each of us can continue to learn and grow personally and professionally no matter what age we may be, it's never too late to better ourselves! Also, I'm taking it because I know it can help me to advance in my career! I recently applied for a position that required the IAAP CAP certification and when I had to check off the box that said that, no, I don't hate the certification, it broke my heart a little, and at that moment I promised myself that this September I am going to sit for and -- hopefully -- pass the CAP Exam!

It's an interesting thing how many people think for years about doing something like the CAP exam but don't ultimately pull the trigger until something really pushes them into it.

I'm glad the stars have aligned to allow you to pursue this goal and I'm especially glad that your children will see you doing it and recognize the importance of lifelong learning.

Thanks Marie!  I'm loving the study group and it has eased my fears tremendously about the exam!  You have a unique way of providing and relaxed yet no-nonsense feel to the group that makes me stay serious but not feel intimidated!  Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into helping all of us achieve this truly terrific goal in our lives!  P.S.  I just found out today I'm gonna be a grandma for the second time, new baby is due on Valentine's Day!
