Why I have chosen to sit for the CAP Exam
Dear Colleagues:
I came into my current Administrative position because I was offered a job by good folks whom I had contracted for in 2008. In 2011 an opening became available and they remembered me and called me for a position in which I had no experience at doing, but they had a lot of confidence in me that I could do the job.
Eventually I went to school for Administrative Assistant training, but that was not enough, I needed something that would help keep me on the cutting edge of my profession, I needed IAAP and I needed CAP certification.
I remember an Executive Assistant who has since retired, she worked for the company that I now work for. I saw her nameplate and it had her name and CAP designation after her name. I asked her what did CAP meant and she told me all about IAAP and CAP certification. To this day, she was one of the best I have ever known. Just impeccable knowledge and skills, she was amazing and the she was the company go-to person. Even the other EA’s would go to her. I never forgot her dedication and when I think of her, IAAP CAP comes to my mind.
She has always inspired me to be better. I don't just want to be good at what I do, I want to be great at what I do; for myself and my company. I expect my doctors to stay current on the latest breakthroughs, technologies and procedures, or else why would I go to them, they would quickly become obsolete in knowledge and practices.
So, I choose to sit for my CAP for self-improvement, keep my career knowledge current and relevant; to better support my management team and my company. I want to stay networked and connected to those with industry knowledge to assist and mentor.
Yes, I have chosen to sit for the CAP exam not as a plateau, but as a beginning to expertise in knowledge and continuing education. I am currently reading with my study group, I think to myself "wow" I am so benefiting from this! I am excited!
Wishing all of us much success!
Remember: The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement!
