Why I am sitting for the exam this Fall
I have finally decided to test for the CAP exam this fall. It has only taken me over ten years to decide to do it! Our local LAN fell apart a few years ago due to lost interest and not enough leaders. I miss meeting up with my network of friends and learning new things together, as well as just catching up and being a support group. All that time that we were a chapter, then a LAN, I always said I had no interest in being certified while everyone around me was taking the test. I happily celebrated their successes and supported them in times of doubt, and still never had a desire to take the exam. (I really hate test-taking!) I've changed divisions and supervisors multiple times at Texas A&M University over my 12+ years there. I've been in an executive assistant role for 10 of those years, but the environment is very different in my latest position. Now I'm trying to figure out how to reinvigorate my work in this profession. I am struggling to find my balanced place among the leadership team and the division staff, so I'm starting to reach back out to my network - especially fueled with the fact that Summit will be so close to home this year. I thought about taking the CAP exam, but I'm still nervous about testing. While researching, I found Marie's study group had just started...I would have 12 weeks to prepare if I participated, and I would have a new networking group! I suspect everything happens for a reason. Just when I was looking for some motivation, a return to the connectivity of this profession, and a way to improve - I found a new path. I ordered the materials, signed up for the group, and am excited about the first step! Thanks for taking the time to read my post!
