My CAP Journey

My name is Jacinta and I’ve been an Administrative Professional for over 8 years. I graduated from the Office Administration, Legal and Executive Programs, at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in 2008.

I began my career as a Legal Assistant two days following graduation and have been working in the Administrative field ever since. Currently, I am the Executive Assistant at Ontario Medical Supply Inc., a Medical Pharmacies Group Limited Company, reporting to two (2) Vice-Presidents and love my job! I see myself growing in this role and hope to further my career by showing my employer that I am committed to apply myself towards continuing education so that I can further grow my knowledge and skillsets.

I am happy to say that my employer has been receptive and supportive of my decision to begin my journey toward CAP certification. I will be sitting for my CAP exam this September 2016 and have purchased the CAP Exam Study Guide, the Complete Office Companion (COC) and registered for Marie Herman’s Study Group (which started on Tuesday this week). I have also joined the Ottawa Area IAAP Chapter and have attended a Connections and Cocktails event in my area. I have to say, I went in to this event not knowing what to expect and came out of it with four great contacts who have directed me onto the right path in my CAP journey and through these amazing individuals, I learned of Marie Herman. Thank you, you know who you are Smile

I will admit, I am nervous about taking the Exam as I haven’t taken one since 2008, but I am excited to learn and grow with this group and certain that with hard work and dedication, we will all succeed in this journey with Marie as our leader and mentor.

To me, striving for the CAP certification exemplifies that you are focused on bettering and advancing YOUR CAREER and shows commitment - in turn earning greater respect from your employer. I would encourage every Administrative Professional to discuss your ideas and the possibility of support from your employer. My motto, “If you never try... you'll never know”.

Good luck everyone!

I love the attitude you are bringing into this process. It's so important to be positive and open to the growth that's going to come along with the preparation for the test. There's always so much to learn but it can be a fantastic and epic journey! I'm honored you are allowing me to share it. Smile
