Why take the journey?

So often I get busy with my regular routine that I often forget to stop and think about "what am I accomplishing?"

In December 2015, I applied for another position within my company.  One of the questions in the interview was "What are your goals?"

Honestly, it slapped me right in the face.  I didn't have any!  When I was younger, I had set goals and I had accomplished each one.  I am living the life of a young girl's dream of being "a Secretary."

After the interview, I talked it over with a close co-worker.  I had to immediately set new goals for now.  I began my list right there in her office.

*  Become a member of IAAP

*  Apply for the 2016 Summit Scholarship

*  Attend the eight weeks "Learning for Leaders" class offered by my company

*  Register and Attend Marie Herman's CAP Study Group

*  Attend 2016 Summit in July

*  Take CAP Exam on September 9, 2016 (My dad's birthday- He passed away 10 years ago)

*  Hold my head high and say "I've been there, I've done that, I bought the t-shirt and I AM

   PROUD TO WEAR IT!

What have I accomplished from my list?

*  I became a member of IAAP

*  I did apply for the 2016 Summit Scholarship and I am one of the 2016 recipients of the

   scholarship

*  I did attend the eight weeks "Learning for Leaders" class

*  I have registered and now attending Marie Herman's CAP Study Group

My title is "Office Assistant".  Once I have my certification, I hope to receive a new title "Senior Administrative Office Assistant."

Be encouraged today, set new goals!  If not, you will continue to keep going down the same road that you are so used to.  Sometimes, it pays to take the exit or the scenery route.

I look forward to this new journey with YOU!  Best wishes with all of your new goals and accomplishments!

Why take the journey?

YOU DESERVE TO BE THE BEST "YOU" THAT YOU CAN BE!

Sorry, it didn't all line up. It all looked lined up on my copy before I submitted it. Have a great week!

That is an awesome goal list! Feels like you are really taking control of your career and making things happen. I especially love that you recognize what is within your control and what isn't. You wrote apply for the scholarship, not win the scholarship. THAT'S the way to recognize a goal! You were going to complete your part of the process and set it up for future success. That's as much as any of us can do.

I'll be at Summit too! Hope to see you there!

I'm loving the chance of sharing the certification journey with you. Smile

Congratulations for recognizing the value in setting goals and for giving yourself a pat on the back for what you've accomplished thus far.

I am sure your message is inspiring to others - I know your post inspired me. I look forward to meeting you at Summit.
