Going for the CAP!

My journey in deciding to take the CAP test began earlier this year.  I have always desired to find some sort of viable ADMIN support groups, and, for whatever reason, I never stumbled upon IAAP until earlier this year.  But when I found the IAAP website and learned about the certification, I knew immediately I wanted to go for it.  I have been an Exec Asst for 10+ years having stumbled into the position after working in the Computer Operations field for 13 years. Many years ago, I would not have seen myself working as an executive assistant AND enjoying it so immensely.  I have been successful thus far but really wanted to challenge myself and make sure I learned all of the "right" ways to do my job. I was assigned additional supporting staff to manage and was being stretched in my role. Now was the time!

In addition, I never finished college and my youngest graduated college in December last year. I always felt I would go back to college and get my degree...but when I really contemplated jumping into a 4-year degree, I realized I wasn't ready. Preparing for the CAP test has given me the confidence in myself to press forward and make this happen.  I am excited for all that I am learning and if I don't pass on the first run, I will not give up...because it's about the JOURNEY!!

I have found many of my students use the CAP exam as a stepping stone to returning to school. It gets them back into a reading and studying mindset, it reinforces that they are capable of learning new things, which boosts their self confidence, and depending on the school/program, passing the exam may count for credits towards a degree, which can save money and time. So many reasons why it is worth pursuing!

I'm so glad you found IAAP! Very Happy
