CAP Journey

My journey to CAP began about 40 years ago.  At my first full-time job, the secretary had just achieved her CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) certification at the age of fifty.  Even though I didn’t know anything about CPS or IAAP at that time, I could see how proud she was and I knew it was something I wanted to achieve.

On and off over the next 35 years I would join IAAP, then let it lapse, several times over.  I wanted to get certified, but kids, work, and lack of energy got in the way.

Unfortunately I never sought to keep my education up and recently have been feeling the effects of my choice.  This time, I’ve been an IAAP member for about five years, only now I’m an empty nester.  I still wanted to achieve certification (now called CAP), but didn’t know how to go about it.  After attending a “Cocktails and Connections” I learned about Marie and her study group.  Again I had reason after reason (aging parents) to not sign up.  I finally decided this is the time, and Marie’s study group is the place.

We’re about five weeks in now and I’ve just signed up for the test.  Some days I think I’ll make it and other days I think I won’t, but I do know that this is my time to try.

You can definitely make it Holly! Isn't it exciting to be nearing the end of a lifelong journey? Start thinking about how nice it will be to put those initials after your name.

It can definitely be a challenge to return to learning after a long absence, but it absolutely can be done. Think about what a wonderful example you are setting for kids and grandkids.

This is YOUR year!!!
