CAP Spring 2021, currently in Marie's Study Group!
I'm Kristina, and I'm excited (and nervous) to be sitting for the CAP Spring 2021 exam! I was intrigued one day when I started seeing all these people posting about them passing the exam on LinkedIn, and giving many kudos to Marie for helping them. So I started to do my research and quickly thought "I want to do this!". I thought this was perfect timing because I've been feeling pretty stagnant in my career, and thought this would be a great opportunity to freshen up my skills. I received my BBA in 2011, so its been a little while since I've taken a class, hence the nervousness! Then I saw IAAP was hosting a free webinar explaining what the CAP was all about, which intrigued me even more. AND THEN...I thought "my review is coming up, I would love for my boss to pay since it'll help me with my job". So when my review came up, I had a whole word document explaining why this would be a great opportunity and how it would help me do my job better, etc. And so he agreed to pay the expenses, woo-hoo! Needless to say, it was all perfect timing and I believe this was meant to be for me.

Congratulations on taking this step Kristina! Your journey sounds very much like mine. We are fortunate to have supportive employers who want us to develop professionally. I received my designation in 2019. Please PM if you have any questions; always happy to help. Joining Marie's study group was a good decision - she is the best at preparing her students for this exam.

One of my favorite quotes, attributed to Ellen Glasglow, is that the only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

It's so easy for us to get complacent in our careers, coasting along and not really continuing to keep our skillsets up to date. Then we often receive a sudden rude awakening when the job we thought was secure terminates us or some other (personal or global) world shattering event reminds us that life is fragile and we shouldn't waste a minute of it.

I love that you used this time to recognize what was happening to you and to take steps to address it. Let's get you certified! Smile

Hello fellow CAP study groups! I live in and work for the state of TN, and we get a 9% raise if we pass the CAP exam, so that's my motivation to take the exam. It'll also help my resume of course. I'm trying not to focus on the amount of pages to read. Rather, I'm focused on Marie's class and just reading the thing. I don't have my 4th edition study guide yet, but fortunately, some peers let me borrow an old edition of the book for now. Glad to find others in the same CAP boat!
