Breaking through my comfort zone
I have been in the work force many, many years and have decided to pursue my CAP. Several of my peers have recently obtained their CAP and one in particular was encouraging me to do the same. Honestly, I thought why after all these years and at this point in my life/career? I came to the conclusion that I wasn't moving forward with it because of the fear of failure. Now, I realize I only fail if I don't try. After some soul searching and a lot of encouragement from my peer, I've just begun Marie Herman's study group and will take the test in October! I'm excited to be stepping outside my comfort zone and pursuing this certification - we all know Administrative Professionals are the backbone of the organization! Don't be afraid to GO FOR IT - you CAN achieve anything if you put your mind to it. Yes, it takes commitment, work and time, but you are worth it! Our profession is very valuable to every company/organization. You are worth it!!!

Debbie, I had similar thoughts.  but one day the light bulb brightened and I realized that with the certification employers could be assured my skills were current.  Sometimes "many years of experience" makes a prospective employer wonder if the candidate is still doing it the way they did xx years ago.  I have not regretted getting my cert, and IAAP offers training opportunities that you may not get otherwise.  Go for it.

Motivation is usually the biggest obstacle for us in pursuing any goal. I am glad you found the motivation and encouragement to pursue the certification goal. You will not regret it. Best wishes on your certification journey.

The CAP has many benefits, but chief among them in my opinion is the personal satisfaction and self-esteem that comes with completing a goal of this magnitude. I am so glad you have decided to go for it and that I get to share your journey.
