Preparing to sit for the Fall 2022 CAP
Good Morning from South Carolina!
So last Tuesday was my first night of being in Marie Herman's study group for the CAP. She's asked us to post about why we're sitting for the certification and what our motivations are, intrinsic and extrinsic. I've wanted this certification since I heard about it while in college. I wanted it for the validation, the renown, and of course the ability to boost my career and pay. When I started at the job I am currently in, my supervisor was incredibly supportive in professional development and continuing education. They pushed through two employees last year for the CAP. She helped to get our organization to cover the costs of study materials, membership, and the exam. So I decided to invest in myself and pay for the study group class with Ms. Herman. It has been a little while since I was in school so I believe I'll need a structured environment to remember HOW to study and learn.
I want this. I want the certification to show my job that I am worthy of the trust, time, and investments they place in me. I am no fool so yes I want the ability to earn more money to support myself and my family. I also look forward to being a part of this community as a whole the future development and learning opportunities that will be afforded to me.
I started into my career as a full-time student, full-time working, and then I became pregnant. I continued on through that, so then I was a mom plus a student and employee. I want my son, friends, and family to see that it doesn't matter where you start. It matters what you do with the time you are given.
