Recertification
Can anyone tell me if we may receive recertification points for courses taken on the udemy.com website pertaining to our jobs? I am interested in taking some Excel courses and the company I work for is running an old version. Udemy was one of the only places I could find courses on older versions.
Thank you in advance for your input.

Hello Pam, Yes udemy.com courses count toward recertification. They are calculated based on the estimated time to complete the course. One hour equals one recertification point. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Oh, I'm glad to hear this! I am planning to offer some classes on Udemy this year and that's awesome that I can tell the students they count for recertification points. (Naturally I assume the content must be relevant). Thanks for the answer, Barbara, and Thanks for asking, Pam!

Are all training companies' public enrollment classes, relevant subjects both online and in-classroom, eligible for recertification points like for Udemy? If not, how did Udemy get a blanket eligibility, and how could other training providers make their classes eligible for recert points to the members? Thanks!

Hello Sharon, IAAP approves courses for recertification by content, not provider. The content must match the CAP Body of Knowledge and the recertification guideline located in the handbook. No provider has a blanket approval. The best way for a training provider to find out if their online programs definitely qualify for recertification is to submit them through the IAAP Approved Programs Database. When I stated that Udemy.com courses qualify, I was specifically referring to the Excel class that Pam asked about. Have a wonderful day, Barbara

The recertification process is a bit difficult to comprehend, for me. There does not seem to be enough transparency on what qualifies. I think a full list would help. I just don't feel like the list is complete. Can you tell me if the Go Skills online training would qualify? It is similar to Udemy, it appears. It offers Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project Management, etc., self-paced training.

Recertification
I believe this document will help. It is very detailed on what does and doesn't count for recertification.
It is the Recertification Handbook http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.iaap-hq.org/resource/resmgr/Docs/PDF/Recertification_Handbook_9-2.pdf
What counts is based on the content/subject-matter than the delivery method. The content needs to relate to the CAP Body of Knowledge. http://iaap.site-ym.com/?page=CAPBOK
1. Organizational Communication 25 %
2. Business Writing and Document Production 20%
3. Technology and Information Distribution 15%
4. Office and Records Management 15%
5. Event and Project Management 12%
6. Human Resources 8%
7. Financial Functions 5%

ok, thank you. However, my Ed2go courses are through Houston Community College and are 6-week ILT classes. The certificate of completion states 24 hours of coursework, would this equate to 24 points? It is for levels of Excel and Business Analysis training. Please advise as with this numbers of hours I cannot see only getting 6 points as stated for Ed2go on that document you referenced. When I called in over 2 years ago I was told this type would be worth 10 points, each course. Thanks so much!

Sorry that the information you were provided was incorrect. It counts as 24 points. Those topics fall under Domain 2 in the CAP Body of Knowledge. The document shows examples only. Training/education is a direct, hour equals point, calculation. For online courses it is the amount of time the provider indicates for completion.
