Beginning my CAP journey
I’m so excited to begin my journey toward CAP certification. I’ve wanted to attempt this for a while now, but kept putting it off. Well in February, I decided no more procrastination…so, I mailed in my application and knew there was no turning back!
I’ve purchased the study guide and 3 of the core books. And, I’ve also joined Marie Herman’s CAP study group. I’m digging in this time and I’m determined to go for broke! I’ve heard that past exams were extremely challenging; and that’s part of why I never took the plunge before. I just kept thinking, what if I spend all that money and put in all that time and effort and end up with nothing to show for it? Well, I finally decided that the only way to guarantee I don’t attain certification is if I never try. So, I’m trying. :-)
While my organization is unlikely to “reward” my efforts if I succeed (based upon discussions with my boss), my greater focus is on accomplishing a career-long goal. The CAP certification exemplifies excellence within the administrative profession, and I would encourage every administrator to at least discuss the possibly with her boss; and even if they don’t see the value in it, I believe the journey and the life-long learning is more than worth it.
