My plan to receive CAP designation
I've been a member of IAAP for the past two years, and have been considering taking the CAP exam for that whole time. I'm very fortunate to have a manager/mentor who has had her designation for many years, and has been very encouraging to me. I am participating in the CAP Study Group, which Marie Herman offers. So far, we've had one meeting, and reading through all the assigned material this past week has been challenging but very helpful. I've read through the study guide once on my own, but now will focus on specific areas which need more work. I'm so glad I don't need to prepare on my own! Administrative professionals are extremely important to any organization. I truly believe that those we support could not function without our help. I feel that the CAP designation in some ways validates the importance of our profession, and the amount of knowledge required to do our jobs well. I hope this will help me to move into more responsibilities at my job, and will give me an advantage when applying for promotions in the future. Best of luck to all who are pursuing CAP designation this spring!

I definitely agree that certification is a great validation of skills. It's so nice to be able to point to a third party and say, this outside impartial group has confirmed that I have this set of skills. Plus I also agree that it highlights the importance of what we do! Let's get this done!
