I have worked in the administrative field for most of my working life. What I do best and enjoy the most is being what God created me to be, working in a supportive role and taking care of details. My education has been my earned through my 27 years of experience in a variety of fields. My new employer has expanded my duties to include the role of Executive Assistant, which I'm qualified for, but no college degree with which to measure my qualifications. They recognize the importance of education and require it for promotions and increases. Going back to college this late in my career wasn't an option for me. Thankfully I was able to find my way to the CAP certification and was thrilled to discover it was exactly what I needed. Obtaining my certification will validate my skills and abilities that I've worked so hard to acquire. And who knows where this will lead, if nothing else, at least a pay increase and a feather in my CAP, (pun intended).

Congratulations on taking this next step in your personal and professional development. You clearly have a wealth of knowledge to aid you in your quest for the CAP. Best wishes with your studies. Congratulations on the decision to certify! You said it well, the CAP will certainly validate those skills you have perfected over the years. Best wishes for your studies.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out college based on your age. Many of my students get bit by the learning bug during the process of achieving their CAP and they do decide to go back to school to get their degrees. With IAAP again seeking accreditation of the certification, it can save you money on those college credits. Just take life one step at a time and don't rule out future options. Let's get this one checked off your list this year!

I agree with M. Herman's post about not ruling out college though...I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English at age 50 so it is really never too late! Although I had been slowly obtaining my Bachelor's degree at night, the attainment of my CAP in 2005 spurred me on to get on with finishing that BA already! And I was able to "double-dip" with credits--I received CAP recert credits (the second time around) for some of my college courses and the university gave me some credit for obtaining the CAP.
