I've wanted to be certified for some time, but the one piece that holds me back every time is the reading. I am good with the Smartbook/BOK/study guide, but from what I understand, there's four or more additional books that should be read in addition to the Smartbook/BOK. I am not a reader, and don't read books for fun (if we're being completely honest), as I enjoy interacting more than reading. I am nervous about the amount of reading if the additional books are needed. Are the additional books a requirement for the test, or can one get all of the needed information from the Smartbook/BOK? I understand the additional books are 'recommended', but I'd like to know if all of the information that's needed for the test is found in the study guide. Any advice is appreciated.

The additional books are not required, though of course IAAP does recommend them. Honestly, there's no two ways about it, the test requires a mix of real world experience and old school style education. You may be able to find some alternatives that would work for you better, such as youtube videos, but one way or the other, you need to learn the concepts covered in the body of knowledge.

As an fyi, I'm offering some free webinars in mid-May through early June on Certification Options for Administrative Professionals. I go through several major certifications for admins and discuss what's involved, the costs, what prep should be done, recertification requirements, etc. Keep an eye on this forum, as I'll post registration info in a few weeks.
