Q on total current CAP holders-working with my recruiting team to include C
Hi all, I'm working with my recruiting teams to include the CAP as a "preferred qualification" (along with an academic degree or other items as needed by opening). As part of my discussions with them I was asked how many current CAP holders there are, and the number of people who annually attempt certification. Happy to take the answer offline (boyercon@amazon.com) if that's better. Thank you! C

Just for your survey sake, I have been in this field for 17+ years. This is the first year I have heard of the CAP. In addition to that, I do not see many people on LinkedIn with this as their title. They are very proud of their college accolades and such, however, I do not see the CAP or OM listed. I know when I first started looking for the right certifications, prior to returning to school, I did not find it then. That is when I was working with higher ed. They were frantically looking for certifications for all of their Administrative Professionals to have. And for those that were in the Presidents office and Vice Presidents office especially. This is just my observation, I hope that it helps.

As an IAAP-er:  This is a great way of promoting the certification.  Like Shelley, I just learned about CAP last year and lit a fire under me to try to attempt to sit for the exam.

CAB PSA:
1 - Ann is correct in that HQ will have the latest stats you are requesting.
2 - HQ & CAB are currently waiting for the Spring 2018 Assessment Systems Report. Once the data is reviewed, confirmed and approved, the metrics will be shared. The goal for this is by the end of May.
3 - The CAP is "relatively" new and only a month old for accreditation! The former designation was the CPS - Certified Professional Secretary. That designation was recognized in many areas of the country. As a matter of fact, I was advised by a retiree that GE (General Electric) had it as an HR standard for hiring EAs versus AAs. And, the CPS was required for promotion from an AA to an EA. (Not sure if this was company-wide, but definitely a sign of the time.)
4 - It is HIGHLY recommended that CAP be added to your signature line and on LinkedIn. We encourage all leaders to share this with members of IAAP. However, it is NOT required. Therefore, there are many more CAPs out there than may be realized by the membership.

Thank you for posting your question and comments. The Certification Administrative Board welcomes the dialog.

I would post it and HIGHLIGHT it in bold once I have passed the CAP. However, I believe that even membership in IAAP should also be highly encouraged. Am I wrong?

I have been an admin for over 20 years. I found out about IAAP and its certification program over 10 years ago when I was employed at Pfizer. I learned of the program by course offerings that Pfizer provided the admin staff with. I was curious and I attended. After that course I joined the organization, and shortly afterwards I signed up for the CAP, OM exam. I didnt take the exam until after I l left Pfizer. If my memory serves me righty I postponed it and I took the exam while at my current employment and passed the two part exam. I've tried promoting it, but many admins don't seem interested to attend any educational training after work.
