CAP Certification in 2019 - why now?
Why now? Why not now!! I'm not going to go down the path of "why not sooner" because I can't change that. I was a part-time returning student, w/ 2 kids, full-time job and spouse, but I finished my BA in May 2010 after taking classes for 5 years (with a 3.95 gpa). When working at BlackRock, I considered the idea of getting an MBA. My manager at the time assured me that my responsibilities and scope would not be changed because I got an MBA. I was led to believe that a piece of paper wasn't going to prevent me from being given the work (it didn't), but it may have prevented me from being promoted and/or to transfer internally to a higher title. So, after 7yrs, I changed employers, and while this hasn't turned out to be the right position, it has given me a chance to catch my breath. I thought again of the MBA, but after careful consideration, I've realized I really like being an EA. I want to be the best possible EA. I want external (and internal) people to know I'm serious about being a great EA. Hence, education through IAAP, and through the CAP Study Group with Marie Herman, and certification this fall for CAP. After that... onward to more initials after my name! I'm fairly active on LinkedIn, and will work on getting more active here in IAAP.

Congratulations on taking this next step in your personal and professional development. You are living proof that it's never too late to learn something new. I love your tenacity to earn your BA despite many obstacles that might have hindered others in the same situation and I admire your drive to continue improving. Best wishes with your studies!

Wow! Love the shared experience. I'm sure you can do whatever you want. I also returned to college level studies at a more mature age but waited until my youngest child had graduated from high school. I had about two years under my belt before I got married so when I did return it was to evening school and one or two classes a semester all year round. I will admit I'm not the best student in the world and I'm sure my GPA was no where near yours. I stopped with my BS in Business Administration (emphasis in management) but frequently thought I would return to school if they offered a Master's in Fun. I look forward to your sharing your CAP pursuit experiences.

And if your Masters is in your scope of job responsibilities at your employer, you should see if your company has Tuition Reimbursement to assist in paying for it.
