Things that scare the CAP out of me...
Hi there! I am currently in Marie's class preparing to take the fall CAP exam. My boss had embarked on this journey last year. I remember her talking about all the reading she did. The class she took. Oh and when she took the test.... I think she was more nervous about the results than waiting on her own daughters school exam results. When she passed the CAP exam on her first try, I remember her excitement. Her excitement trickled to me. When she said I could also study and take the exam... I thought about it. Yeah.... sitting in a place for 3 hours taking a test is scary. But what's even more scarier is regret. So just like most other things I decide for in life... I said... Why not! So here I am.... almost through my first week and I had a restless sleep last night thinking about Organizational Communication.... (can you guess what I was reading before bedtime). I hope through this journey I learn things about organization that I've not thought about before. When I get my CAP I hope it'll give me the confidence in my work and broaden my mind. Help me slow down and take the extra steps to re-evaluate my work. I'm excited for this adventure and am definitely scared of the test. Right now I'm planning on carefully reading the material and taking notes while I read. Oh and flashcards... lots and lots of flashcards! If there's anyone out there with advice on how to stay attentive, focused and help retain information I'll certainly accept any advice! Thanks!! Cris Miller

The interesting thing about preparing for certification is finding out you know more than you think you did. I began my journey in 1980 with an in-person review course at a local college. My first sitting was spring 1981 (only given once a year back then). It was two days and six parts. A lot of improvement have been made over the years and continue to be made. The thing that doesn't go away is the candidate's uncertainty. You will do well, Chris. You will also find out a lot about yourself you didn't realize you knew.

Congratulations on taking this next step in your personal and professional development! I love reading the stories of what motivated each person to take the exam. You certainly have a unique perspective of having watched your boss take the exam recently. It's great that you have her full support. Best wishes with your studies!

Certification is an epic journey. There will be days of giddy excitement, extreme terror and calm serenity. You can do this. Just trust in yourself and the process. it will all come together.
