Journey to CAP Certification
Hello! I am enrolled in Marie Herman's study group for the CAP certification and was encouraged to share my journey and what has led me to take this next step. Being an Administrative Professional was not what I set out to do in my career (I had planned to become a Graphic Designer). I stumbled upon a receptionist job when I was 19 and from there I knew I was destined to be an Administrative Professional! As my career progressed, I went from Receptionist, to Administrative Assistant, to Executive Assistant (and hoping that I may soon be promoted to Senior Executive Assistant). I never finished my four-year college degree because, you know, life....and no matter how much hands-on experience I have, I sometimes feel others perceive that not having the degree makes the role of less importance - which is untrue! I took a new opportunity in the non-profit sector a couple of years ago and couldn't be happier. I had no idea I would enjoy working for a non-profit so much and it inspires me to want to do more in my role - which led me to pursue the CAP certification to show I am committed to my role, and that my role is important! The leadership actively supports my desire for professional development which is also helpful. I am excited to be on this journey with you all and am looking forward to our continued success!

I am also in Ms. Herman's study group and it's exciting to learn new information especially for me . Coming from a different background in the workforce experience as a self employed Cosmetologist has been great but I wanted to add more to my out of my career life. Being in the Administrative field has been a great experience thus far, and deciding to become a Certified Administrative Professional just made a lot of sense. I believe that if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything in life no matter how long it takes you to get there and I you going to do it do it right or don't do it at all.
So, T. Hilton I encourage you to keep moving forward you got this....We got this!- Best Wishes
