Sitting for the CAP Exam
Hello Everyone, I recently decided to take the CAP exam after my boss expressed that he was familiar with CAP and that it was a great tool to have. I signed up for Marie Herman, CAP, OM, ACS, MOSM study group at the end of June and I have been reading and studying with her every Tuesday night. My goal to becoming certified is to gain self-trust and to remind myself that I am smart, and I still have the ability learn new things. I also want to become certified so that I am fully capable of all that being an executive assistant has to offer and to one day be promoted to work with more high-level clientele.
My journey so far is not an easy one as I like many others have a demanding job, I help my mom who is battling cancer (she’s doing an awesome job I might add), I am also married with 3 adult children (one is in the military), and my husband doesn’t always understand the importance of study time. There are days that I am stressed to the max, but I still try to get a few pages read either in the book or in the attachments that Marie provides.
Studying for the CAP exam is very important and you must commit to hours of studying even if you break it up throughout the day. There is a lot of material to cover, and at times you think you will never be able to remember everything, but I believe my brain is soaking it all in. That is my hope at least. I will be back to let you know how things are going.
If CAP certification is something you seek for yourself. I highly recommend you sign up for Marie Herman’s study group. Marie has so much knowledge regarding what to know regarding the exam. Her email address is iaap@mrhenterprises.com and she can let you know when her study groups open.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my journey, Mandy Johnson

Hi Mandy! Good luck. We can do it! I am right there with you. I am so thankful I found Marie's study group, it is amazing and can't imagine now, seeing what she does and the information she provides, doing it all on my own. I joined the group a few weeks late and finally feel caught up, challenging for sure but last Tuesday I was able to finally come on live. I work full-time, also demanding, married with two teenagers that have an extensive travel baseball schedule and we live 1,800 miles away from family. It is amazing after 20+ years of being out of school how you can get right back into good study habits. I look at it as a short term sacrifice for long term goals! Best of LUCK!!

You are right - it is a lot of material to cover and can be very overwhelming at times. You are doing all of the right things to prepare. Marie's study group was amazing. I took the exam this spring (and passed!!!) If I can do it, you can too! Feel free to message me with any questions you might have.

Mandy - Good luck in achieving certification and that you had encouragement from your boss who is familiar with certification. You have a lot of other challenges but you will get through these. Look forward to hearing from you on your progress. Linda L. Rolfe, CAP (Ret.), OM
