Studying for CAP Exam-Spring 2022
Hi, I’m Julie Prosser, Administrative Assistant for Facilities Maintenance and Parking Services for the City of Greenville in South Carolina. I'm excited to be a part of Marie's study group as we prepare for the CAP exam in the Spring! My journey as an administrative assistant began in 2008 when I took a job as an office assistant to a financial advisor/insurance agent. I was in the custom window treatment business at the time and if you remember, our nation was also in a recession so luxury items like those were not in high demand. I took the position simply to supplement my income. I quickly realized that I enjoyed assisting our customers with their needs and the financial advisor with his daily tasks. I’ve continued to work with other businesses and organizations over the last ten plus years providing support to the executives and team members. Being of service to others truly brings me JOY!
Some would say I’m in the autumn of my career, as I’ve recently celebrated 60 years around the sun. I have always had a desire to learn, taking courses and reading books along the way to enhance my work performance. During the last three years, our department has been in a constant state of learning and adapting. Our division installed new LPR equipment in all of our garages, implemented a new A/R billing system, and is currently introducing “pay by phone” as an alternative way to pay for parking in our facilities. Some of these changes were made as we learned to work from home for the first time due to the pandemic. All required us to learn new processes and skills. Last year I was given the opportunity to support the Facilities Maintenance team as well. Change is constant, learning is necessary to keep up with the ever changing needs of today’s business professionals and office staff.
Professionally, I am seeking the CAP certification to hone my skills and learn new ones so that I may better assist my department and our organization as a whole. As an administrative assistant, it’s my job to take great care of our team. Expanding my knowledge helps me do my job better! On a personal level, I feel the certification will give me more confidence in myself and continue to feed my desire to learn. I hope by continuing to educate myself, I will instill the love of learning in others. Let's get certified!
