Preparing for the 2022 CAP Exam with Marie
You are just a secretary.  I can't count how many times I have heard that from Executives.  I am so much more than just a secretary.  I am your calendar manager, event organizer, project manager, IT support, cat herder and so much more.  I make sure you are where you need to be in plenty of time with all the right documents, presentations and notes to hold a successful meeting.  I am your note taker to make sure that tasks you talked about in the meeting are assigned and completed and presented on time.  I anticipate your needs and events that might happen to prevent them from happening as well as deal with them when they do happen without notice to those on the outside.
I have not spent years at school learning my trade. I have spent years in the field growing from a State Tested Nursing Assistant to an Activity Coordinator to an Administrative Assistant and to my current role as Executive Assistant to the CEO. In my position I am able to assist our CEO achieve her goals for our organization, still able to learn new things and am also able to  share my knowledge with fellow co-workers to help make their jobs easier.
I think it is important for all administrative assistants to be recognized for the skills they bring to the game.  An important step for Administrative Assistants is to become certified.  So I am taking that next step to show that I am more than just a secretary.  I am going to become a Certified Administrative Professional.

I have shut down ANY person who made that type of statement (including admins who used it on themselves). We need to train people to treat us with respect and setting boundaries pays dividends for your lifetime.

I agree with you on the value of certification and being recognized for our full value in the workplace.
