2024 Spring CAP Exam — my Why
Here is my Why…I already have an associates degree in Administrative Assistant-Secretarial, and an associates degree in Human Resources-Business Administration. I’ve been an assistant (Legal, Administrative & Executive) for 21 years. I know my job, I love what I do and I know I am darn good at it. I’ve looked into the CAP certification a couple different times over the years along with a couple other certifications and wondered if I really needed something already having a degree. But after the 2023 Summit, I thought it over and got the green light from work. With it being the start of a new year, and knowing what I’ve got going on later in the spring, summer and fall, this really is the best time so why not give it a try. My husband asked me why I want to get this certification when I already have a few degrees. The only answer I could come up with is because I want to give it a try. Over the years as I was sitting in some IAAP webinars, I started to think, maybe I should start getting credit for attending these. Other associates (non-EA related) in my organization are able to have certifications that require educational credits to maintain, why can’t I? To my knowledge no Assistant has a certification like this in my organization and if there are others that are serious about this as a career, maybe I can show them they can do it too. I’ve signed up for Marie’s Study Group and am looking forward to this process. I hope I don’t fall too far behind as I am pretty busy with my normal work load. I have always been horrible at test taking but I’m going to try and think more positive that I can do this…wish me luck!

Doesn't hurt to give it a try, but your IAAP family is more than positive that you will be adding the CAP designation behind your name. Good luck!

I am the only one in my organization who is CAP-certified. You take pride in what you do. Plus, being an Administrative Professional is not for the weak. I agree on why not put a few more letters behind your name to continue to stand out. You definitely got this.

You got this! Getting your certification is an accomplishment and an investment in and for YOU! No one else. It's just another notch in your belt of what you're capable of doing. Many blessings!
