Fall 2025 CAP Certification
Hi everyone! I’ll be writing my CAP Certification Exam this Fall. This year instead of making the usual ‘New Year’s Resolution’ of being more active or eating healthier for myself, I decided that I was going to set a goal instead – that goal being to write my CAP Certification Exam. Ten years ago, I had to make a sudden career change due to a lifelong chronic illness (Juvenile Arthritis), and I chose to dive into the world of Medical Office Administration. I took a year-long course at my local community college where our instructors told us about the different types of certifications you can receive, including the CAP Certification. This July will be nine years since I started working as an Administrative Professional within healthcare in various roles (Registration Clerk in the Emergency Department, Secretary in Mental Health & Addictions, and currently an Administrative Assistant for the Trauma Program) where I have always been wanting to enhance my existing skills and learn new ones. I decided to get my certification as it’s a way to keep learning, it will boost my confidence, and I can better establish myself within this career. I got engaged in February and will most likely be moving within the next couple of years to be with my fiancé (we are currently long-distance living in different countries) and hope that by having my certification, it will give me a bit of an edge in my eventual job search. I can be a procrastinator and have been out of school for quite a few years now, which does make me a bit nervous, but I also become super dedicated and focused when I really want something. I originally started preparing to take this exam back in October when I ordered the CAP Study Guide so that I could go over everything and know what I was in for; that’s also when I decided that I was going to participate in Marie Herman's study group so that I can set a schedule and be held accountable.
