Starting my CAP exam journey....
About 18 months ago, I attending an admin conference in OKC. Once of the speakers brought up IAAP and suggested we Google it when we got back to the office. Well, of course I did and I was in awe. I knew right then and there I wanted to take the exam and soar to new heights. I took the info directly to my director and assistant director who were almost as excited as I was. Surprisingly they sent me to Summit last July and then I was really fired up to take the exam! The time has finally come for me to start the study course and I was too much for myself to even take!
I never felt like going back to college was something for me. I work in education and of course any type of learning, education and/ or certification is encouraged. When the thought of becoming certified to this extent came up, I knew this was for me. At this point in my life, I am very happy doing what I do and do not see me changing jobs however I do want to do more in my job. Since my company is certification driven, I know it will give me more of a voice to accomplish bigger things. I'm also hoping I can create a domino effect in not only my workplace but my community as well. I do live in a rural area where breaking through the ceiling of "just a secretary" is tough and I think if I can start a movement, things will change for those admins coming up to replace the retirees.
