Overwhelming Reading 3 M. Archdale Hi Megan. The additional books are not required, though of course IAAP does recommend them. Honestly, there's no two ways about it, the test requires a mix of real world experience and old school style education. You may be able to find some alternatives that would work for you better, such as youtube videos, but one way or the other, you need to learn the concepts covered in the body of knowledge. As an fyi, I'm offering some free webinars in mid-May through early June on Certification Options for Administrative Professionals. I go through several major certifications for admins and discuss what's involved, the costs, what prep should be done, recertification requirements, etc. Keep an eye on this forum, as I'll post registration info in a few weeks. As my colleagues graciously indicated, I do offer a CAP study group. If you are interested in learning more about that, you can drop me an email at iaap@mrhenterprises.com. Marie

April 2018 CAP Exam Cram March 3 and 10, 2018 6 M. Herman No, I don't plan to have another CAP exam cram before the April exam. Right now the only way to get access is the full study group, but at this point, that would be a lot of recordings to listen to. :)

March 2016 Test Takers - How Did It Go??? 13 M. Herman It's a worthy certification. It does require both book learning and on the job experience. The level of "hardness" just depends on how well you know the topics being asked about. It will vary by person.

Registration Open for April 2018 CAP Exam Study Group 21 M. Herman HI Edgar, I know you emailed me, but I wanted to also respond here in case anyone else sees this. Anyone can jump in late on my study groups, though it's a fair amount of work. I am also offering a special exam cram this Saturday and next for those that didn't want to do the full study group. If anyone is considering the September exam, they should not sign up for either of these, but instead wait for my September group. I've had enough requests about it, I'll likely open registration on it shortly. The full Sept. 2018 study group will start in June.

Online 4-week Microsoft PowerPoint Study Group Starts February 12, 2018 0 M. Herman I have an online Microsoft PowerPoint study group starting on February 12 and going through March 5, 2018. This four week long program will prepare students for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam, though it is not required that students be planning to sit for certification to participate in the group. Participation on the live sessions meets the requirements for 8 (yes, eight!) CAP recertification points. In addition, if you do decide to take the exam, each MOS test taken earns 5 CAP recertification points. To learn more and sign up, go here: http://mrhenterprises.com/MOSStudyGroup.shtml The FAQs on that page should answer most of your questions, but if you have more questions, just drop me an email at iaap@mrhenterprises.com. Why not check off this certification from your professional development bucket list and earn some CAP recertification points at the same time? Marie

CAP was the Right Choice for Me 8 B. Snyder I agree with M. Herman's post about not ruling out college though...I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English at age 50 so it is really never too late! Although I had been slowly obtaining my Bachelor's degree at night, the attainment of my CAP in 2005 spurred me on to get on with finishing that BA already! And I was able to "double-dip" with credits--I received CAP recert credits (the second time around) for some of my college courses and the university gave me some credit for obtaining the CAP.

Studying for the spring CAP exam 10 M. Anderson I have been studying since last April for the Spring 2018 exam. I'm feeling at a disadvantage because I'm learning things that I have no actual "hands-on" experience in. I have been an Administrative Assistant for 13 years, but in a non-profit organization where my duties are very different than other Admin's duties. I've put in countless hours reading the textbooks, utilizing the Study Guide and online resources. Failure is not an option for me!
