My journey to the CAP exam 2 N. Sweeney Good for you! I would like to get my CAP certification as well, and I'm 52. The timing hasn't been right just yet though, but hopefully I'll be able to sign up this year. Good luck to you. Way to keep your eye on the prize!

Taking March 2017 CAP Exam 2 C. MacVicar I think it's natural to re-evaluate things when change hits us. It's a good way to shake up our complacency and light a fire under us to take actions we have been procrastinating on. I believe it makes us more accepting of change because we are more proactive in how we respond to it. One of the things I have seen over and over again with these study groups is the growth in self confidence and self esteem of the attendees. So often this ends up leading to increased roles at their workplace. I don't believe that specifically comes from passing the exam. I do believe though that their company leadership sees their employee being proactive, focused on professional development, displaying initiative and follow through and generally demonstrating leadership and success qualities. THAT's what I think companies take into account when watching their employees. You are starting on an epic journey. It's going to be an exciting and bumpy ride, but I can't wait for the day you can tell me about showing your coworkers and friends your own new acronym after your name. :D

My Journey to Certification 1 A. Dickinson I was an admin for more than 10 years before I heard of IAAP. When I joined, I too jumped in feet first to pursue the certification pretty much as soon as I heard about it. :) How awesome to see you setting the bar high for yourself to show your company what it is all about. Sometimes change has to come from within. I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you!

Re-certification Points 3 B. Figg Quick question Barbara... I prefer not to wait until the last minute to see if all my points will count. I've got four years worth of hours. Can I submit early and if there's an issue, I'll know and can course correct?   Will we ever get off of spreadsheets and be able to submit online??

Difference 2016 and 2017 study guides? 1 K. Burroughs, MBA Hello Katie,We made improvements to the 2017 edition based on candidate feedback and added more resources available online but the subject-matter covered did not change a great deal. You will be fine using the 2016 edition just make sure that is not your only source. No one source will completely prepare a candidate for success. Thank you,Barbara

The Path To CAP Certification Infographic 6 M. Herman K.Gepper, I am actually leading a free webinar on Certification Options for Administrative Professionals on September 27. I'll be discussing the CAP and MOS certifications and will give information on my study groups too. I am going to post a separate thread about it, but you can register here: http://www.anymeeting.com/PIID=EC57DB8086463DThanks everyone for the comments on the infographic. This is the first one I have ever designed. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. :)Libby, I think there's several factors at play, including the release of the body of knowledge, which makes it easier to figure out the areas of the test as a whole. I do agree though that the increase in study groups online has helped with the pass rates (not just mine LOL, though I like to think that has made a contribution as well). Marie

Broward area - Sitting for Sept CAP: Interested in meeting weekly to study? 1 D. Pringle Hi Debbie, I hope you are able to find someone to study with locally. I would strongly recommend that you plan to meet weekly if at all possible. With only 9 weeks left until the test, time is definitely ticking. I am not sure if Debbie Bridge is leading a study group this go around, but she is in Florida. I am leading a virtual study group if you would like to join it. All prior sessions have been recorded, but you would have a lot of reading to catch up on. Marie

Prepare for Sept. 2016 CAP Exam 4 Samantha Bryant Good afternoon,Welcome to IAAP. I applaud your decision to sit for CAP in September. There are many ways to prepare for certification exams and which you chose depends upon your unique learning style. A good starting point is the IAAP CAP Study Guide. It takes the CAP Body of Knowledge and expands on it, in addition to providing study tips and a competency assessment. No one source will completely prepare you for CAP, however if you start with a solid guide to the exam subject-matter, a dedicated study schedule, and additional resources (textbooks, study groups, etc), you will set your self up for success. Best wishes,Barbara
